Lotto 649 is the only other inter-provincial lottery in Canada and offers jackpots of at least $5 million twice a week on Wednesday and Saturday evenings at 9:10pm. There are seven ways to win in each draw for matching as little as two numbers, and each draw will also give away a guaranteed $1 million prize to the winner of the raffle prize draw.
Draws take place just after the ticket cut-off time, with the winning numbers published online shortly after. Six numbers are drawn along with the additional bonus ball which is needed for some of the non-jackpot prize tiers. You can find the latest numbers and all winning numbers for Lotto 649 on its dedicated page here.
Named after the way you enter, in Lotto 649 you choose six numbers from a pool of 1 – 49, however if you can’t choose the numbers yourself you can have them randomly selected using a quick pick. Tickets cost $3 per draw entered.
Each $3 entry also gives you a raffle code that enters you into the guaranteed prize draw to potentially win the $1 million prize. You can also add the EXTRA option for an additional $1 for a chance to win $250,000. You can enter up to 6 lines per entry for up to 25 draws in a row.
Check the winning numbers over on the Lotto 649 numbers page shortly after the 7:30pm pacific time cut off to see if you have won a prize.
Each Lotto 649 draw gives players seven different prize tiers to possibly win in, with the lowest being for matching 2 numbers all the way to the jackpot for matching all six numbers drawn. You need to match the additional bonus ball that is drawn to win if you have matched two or five numbers, but not for the jackpot. You can see all the prizes tiers, numbers needed to match to win and the odds in the table below:
|Numbers Matched||% of Prize Pool||Estimated Prize||Odds of Winning|
|6||79.5||Min $5 Million||1 in 13,983,816|
|5 + Bonus Ball||6%||$150,000||1 in 2,330,636|
|5||5%||$2,000||1 in 55,492|
|4||9.5%||$90||1 in 1,033|
|3||-||$10||1 in 56.7|
|2 + Bonus Ball||-||$5||1 in 81.2|
|2||-||Free Ticket||1 in 8.3|
The overall odds of winning a prize are 1 in 6.6
The prizes won for matching four, five and five + bonus ball change from draw to draw as they are dependent on the funds in the prize pool and the number of winners in that tier. More winners would mean lower prizes for each person, whilst a bigger prize pool would increase the amount for each tier.
Alongisde each Lotto 649 draw is the EXTRA draw and the guaranteed $1 million raffle. The EXTRA draw comprises of a seven-digit code where you win prizes for matching a certain number of digits in order. If you select the $1 additional EXTRA game on your ticket then you will receive a seven-digit code on your ticket labelled as your EXTRA entry. You win by matching your digits to the winning ones in the exact same place as they are drawn, starting with the last digit. The top prize is $250,000 for matching all seven digits, but you win smaller prizes for matching fewer, starting at $2 for just the last digit.
The $1 million guaranteed draw doesn’t cost anything extra to enter as it is covered in your $3 entry fee. Each ticket will have an eight-digit number followed by a two-digit trailer (e.g. 12345678-01) that is unique to that ticket. If you buy more than one entry on a ticket then the two-digit trailer will increase for each entry, with the eight-digit starter staying the same. Every draw will select one code sequence from all of those that have been sold, guaranteeing there is a winner every Wednesday and Saturday.
In September 2022 the Lotto 649 is making some drastic changes to the way the draw and guarnateed prize draw works. The main Lotto 649 draw will no longer increase if it is not won and will stay fixed at the $5 million jackpot for every single draw.
The guaranteed prize draw will be renamed the Gold Ball Jackpot and will offer a minimum prize of $1 million that could increase all the way to $60 million. Each ticket will still have an entry into the Gold Ball jackpot using the same eight-digit, two-digit raffle code that is currently used. Match the Gold Ball code and you will win a minimum of $1 million.
A separate draw takes place to determine the final value of the Gold Ball jackpot the player wins. 30 balls are placed in a drum and one is selected- 29 of these balls make the jackpot $1 million, but if the gold ball is selected then the player wins the Gold Ball Jackpot. The Gold Ball jackpot starts at $10 million and increases by at least $2 million between draws if it is not selected. Everytime a non-gold ball is selected it is removed from the drum, making the odds of selecting the gold ball higher and higher each time it is not selected.
