Max Plus

MaxPlus is the Lotto Max feature which gives you a significantly better chance of winning a major prize. There are always at least 10 prizes of $100,000 or more up for grabs!

MaxPlus works in a similar way to Max Millions, except that there are lots of chances to win in every draw. Find out more about a side-game to Lotto Max that is due to launch on April 14 to generate even more excitement.

MaxPlus results will appear here after the first draw has taken place.

How it Works

For every $1 million in the Lotto Max jackpot, the Interprovincial Lottery Corporation (ILC) offers an additional ‘MaxPlus’ prize of at least $100,000.

When the jackpot is at its minimum amount of $10 million, for example, there are 10 MaxPlus prizes. If the jackpot is at its maximum amount of $90 million, there are 90 MaxPlus prizes!

A series of separate draws are held to determine each MaxPlus result. Just like the main draw, each result consists of seven random numbers between 1 and 52 (no bonus number is selected).

You are automatically entered into each MaxPlus draw when you play Lotto Max. Any of the lines on your ticket can win any of the prizes. It is not a feature that requires you to opt in, choose any extra numbers or pay any more money.

MaxPlus is designed to improve the odds of winning a great prize, as there are always at least 10 chances to win $100,000. The odds of winning improve as the jackpot gets bigger because more MaxPlus prizes are added, while Max Millions also kicks in when the jackpot reaches $50 million.

The ILC reserves the right to increase the value of prizes from $100,000, so there may be opportunities to win even more from time to time.

How to Win

To win a MaxPlus prize, you must match all seven numbers of the drawn numbers. It’s just like Max Millions, as there are no secondary prizes. Even if you match six numbers from one line on your ticket, this will not give you a payout. It’s all or nothing!

If multiple players match all the numbers, the money is split between winners. For example, if two players win one particular MaxPlus draw and the prize is $100,000, both winners receive $50,000.

The odds of winning depend on how many prizes are awarded and how many lines you have entered into that Lotto Max draw.

MaxPlus Winners

MaxPlus creates winners all over Canada – it is not a game that is limited to one or two provinces. You may play in Atlantic Canada, British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec and Western Canada. As there are always multiple MaxPlus results, there is usually a mix of some draws that have a single winner, some that have two or more winners, and many draws that do not get won.

Funding MaxPlus prizes

For each Lotto Max draw, the ILC allocates $2.88 for the payment of prizes from every play. Out of this $2.88, the ILC assigns $1.69 to a ‘Draw Fund’. This Draw Fund is used to pay anyone who wins the main Lotto Max jackpot, any Max Millions prize or any MaxPlus prize.

If there is money left over after the payment of any these prizes, it is added to the Draw Fund for subsequent draws. The ILC will provide additional funding if it is required to pay for any of these major prizes.

The $1.19 that does not go to the Draw Fund is known as the Prize Fund. There are fixed payouts for the lowest three categories, and the rest is a ‘Pools Fund’. A percentage of this fund is allocated to each of the remaining categories.
